I find Erv's to be hit or miss. I do enjoy their fish fry very much so, but on my last visit, I found my lunch to be rather blah. The homemade potato chips tasted rather stale. Granted, they were very busy with large Christmas parties so maybe the chips were easily overlooked by the kitchen. It wasn't their best showing but I will continue to go back because I have always enjoyed it in the past.

Great staff. Great beers. Great food. Great atmosphere! In town for tourney - went to one pub and had to leave because of bad service. Found Erv's and were pleasantly surprised!

I went here for dinner and really liked it. The salad, bread, pork chops and potatoes I had were all presented and done well. The service was great and the on tap micro beer selection is really good.

Kinda divey but the food was great and the beer was phenomenal. Had the French onion soup - delicious and mozzarella sticks - homemade, thick-cut which is a rarity. Also had the Monterrey steak bites which were good not great. Washed em down with a couple baller ass double IPAs that I can't get on the east coast. We came for lunch during the week so the place was basically empty and the bartender was awesome.

Used to come here as a kid for Friday fish fry on occasion. Came here with family for the first time in 10 years of so. FANTASTIC. I love the remodeling they did inside. Excellent beer selection and the food is just how I remembered...excellent! I will be back!

Fish Fry! My fiance and I decided to try out a fish fry near our new home back in late March. We wavered back and forth on places and finally decided on Erv's Mug. We arrived at around 4:30PM and it was already packed. There is limited parking in their lot and the credit union next door must be on good terms with them as it was apparent many people were parking there and walking over. As we entered, the place was quaint with a definite "man-cave" decor of taps handles, beer mirrors and other bar paraphernalia literally packed on the walls and ceiling. We were seated immediately, surprising with the amount of traffic in the place. They offer a few varieties of fish and their cod can be ordered fried in a small or large portion, baked or a combo platter. We each decided on the combo platter. I paired my meal with an Orkney Skullsplitter Ale which is hard to find in Milwaukee and completely made my day. The food arrived quickly, was hot, and of great portion for the price. The fried cod was done well, the batter crisp and flavorful. The meal comes with cole slaw and choice of potato and each side was well done. The only food issue was that the baked cod portion I received was dry and lacked any seasoning. Completely unappetizing. My fiance's portion was more moist and had some seasoning, so perhaps I got a bad piece, but the waitress never asked about it. This brings me to my only critique. The was service is setup is wonderful as the waitress takes the orders and a team of assistants, clear dishes, do refills, deliver food, etc. Unfortunately, our waitress was only there to take our order, to ask how things were right after it was delivered and before we ate anything and then finally to bring the bill when we had to flag her down. The support staff truly saved her overall service. She seemed to know a few people as regulars and was quite attentive to them, but it should be that way for all. Overall, a wonderful fish fry which we will partake again.

Amazing beer list that rotates throughout the day. For a vegan option, they have one of the best black bean burgers in the area.

Ervs is a mix between a classic Wisconsin Supper Club and Buca di Beppo. From the moment you walk into this divey, what appears to be hole-in-the-wall establishment all of your senses are shocked. You can't stop your head from moving because the walls and ceilings are littered with artwork. You come to Ervs because it's homey, it's fun and you feel welcome as soon as you walk in the door. I am sure Erv really knows your name...this place is just like Cheers! Be warned that Fridays are packed due to their AMAZING Fish Fry, so be sure to get there early or you will be waiting. Don't worry about the wait though! Ervs offers so many awesome drinks that you should stop at the bar before dining! It seems their beer menu is constantly rotating different craft beers. Don't fret Spotted Cow lovers, they always have a few Wisconsin favorites on tap too! This place is a fun spot for Untapped users. If you don't want a beer, I suggest the Brandy Old Fashioned Sweet. When you are out to a fish fry a Brandy Old Fashioned always pairs well with your meal. Sure the prices are a little high ($13) for a standard fish fry and it's not "all you can eat", but it is well worth it! You meal will come with two large pieces of fish, soup, rye bread, coleslaw and your choice of potato. The potato choice ranges from regular fries - mashed - baked! My trip to Ervs was better than what I hoped for. I cannot wait to come back to this Wisconsin gem for a traditional Wisconsin fish fry!

You get greeted as soon as you in and the place has a small cozy setup which I love. Something about an original home feeling. I'm all the way from New York and I appreciate being treated as someone who is from the local area. Tuesday they have a sandwich special called the garage burger. It's a whole bunch of different meats that were left behind from the previous cuts. Someone used to keep this meat and make his own sandwich and everyone loved it. They most of low temp cooked this meat for hours. It's so soft and the texture was awesome I came in for lunch but I'm curious what the happy hour night time is like. They have 32 beers on tap and I would of tried a couple Whether you are from the oak ridge area or if you are choosing the Milwaukee area. I suggest coming out here to get a mid west culture vibe

Norm! I mean, Erv's! Erv's Mug is kind of like Cheers. It's the kind of place you can belly up to the bar, shoot the breeze, watch the game, and enjoy the many good beers they offer. Erv's is beer on the South Side. There's no better place to get your Craft on, at least not paying Hipster prices! Erv's has you covered with great Craft Drafts, and you can choose to sample a flight of five beers for $9. The waitress will let you write 'em down in order, and then they come served 1-5 in an Erv's face so you can remember what you're drinking! Nice. I sampled some great Christmas Ales, Winter Whites, and WhItePAs here over the Holidays. Since my parents live nearby, we've come to Erv's for dinner a few times. They serve a nice Ribeye sandwich, and my mom and son loved the corned beef and cabbage dinner over St. Patrick's Day. The food at Erv's is pretty heavy, but it's solid good food, and there's plenty to choose from on the menu. Checkout their website for Craft Beer dinners, where they feature one brewery, in pairings with food. Erv's is solid for comfort food, and good Craft Beer.

Brilliantly done place, friendly service, ask for JAMIE! Food is pretty good, Beer is awesome, and service is the best in this particular area! Highly recommendable for some good beer and food with small groups!

Ordered two Steak sandwiches, one med & one Med/rare. Both came out well done, the rest was fine. Service was very good.

The fish fry here is one of the best that I have ever had. They cut the pieces of fish to be really long, and it makes the fish look larger than life. They do not have Guiness, but they feature some Lakefront Brewery options, and those are pretty good. There is a buzz and no waiting room, so I have, many times, found myself standing in the middle of the bar, shoulder to shoulder with other patrons waiting to be seated. They don't take reservations for smaller groups. The service is really good once you are seated.

Dear people who have yet to enjoy Erv's (amazing) Mug, This place makes my heart smile. 1. Honey maple glazed sweet potato fries, aka pillows from heaven 2. Apple pecan pit baked beans 3. French onion soup, which deserves more than this simple shout-out 4. Teresa--amazing waitress/friend/confidant 5. Garbage sandwich, which is ironically named. 6. The Regulars--thanks, Steve 7. Mozzarella sticks, the girth of which is almost alarming to your mouth hole 8. Ordering so much food that Teresa has to recommend a second table, further proving her wisdom 9. Recognition that women who don't wear underwear never get their panties in a bunch 10. Thirty-two seasonal drafts, one better than the next You want to go to here. And before I hit "submit," Kristen wants you to know the Garbage is only available on Tuesdays (all day).

Usually hit up Ervs for a fish fry but this time went in on a Thursday. Ordered a delicious steak sandwich that did not disappoint. The sandwich came with a large portion of fries. Service was excellent! Don't be scared if the parking lot looks full from the road, there usually is room behind the building.

Like they need another review. But I haven't been here in years. Even better than I remembered. Just great bar food all around. Breaded mushrooms, Erv burger, and chix Philly wrap were all outstanding. Can't wait to sample more of the menu next time. Excellent array of options. And service by Kate was super! I rarely call out someone specific, but she was great. From being prompt to making recommendations. Great overall experience.

Very busy place when we were there. Loud enough that our kids weren't disturbing anyone but we could still hear each other. The food was plentiful and good. I had the buffalo chicken wrap and others had a steak, a taco salad, a burger and everyone liked their meal. The beer selection was great and the drink specials were good too. Very family friendly even for kind of rambunctious kids. The bar area seemed to be a nice atmosphere too. Our waitress was very nice. The food did take a little longer than normal to come out but they were slammed.

Terrible service, waitress knew nothing of the beer menu while they boast about how many beers they have to offer but have no recommendations if your not familiar with the menu, waited almost an hour for my food, while my waitress would occasionally would come check on me to say the food would be out any second. Will not be returning.

I was looking for a good independent eatery to have lunch at on our way up to Sprecher's Brewery. My requirements: it had to be not far off the highway, not in downtown Milwaukee, a decent menu & good Yelp reviews. Let me just say, those requirements are actually more challenging than you would think to fill. After an entire lunch hour of scouring Yelp, Erv's Mug fit the bill...and then some! All the walls & even the ceiling are COVERED in old bar, brewery & booze memorabilia - giving you plenty to look at. There are also a few old clown clown dolls around...not sure who started adding those to the decor, but I would advise that trend cease - they're just creepy. I also counted 3 fireplaces in here, nice! We were here at 11:30 on a Sunday so they weren't busy yet. They have quite a selection on their menu and 30 beers on tap. Since we were going on a brewery tour & tasting next we skipped the beer & dived in to the food. I had the fried clam strips (perfect) & the house made Apple Pecan Baked Beans (Wowsers...it was like dessert & beans in one! So different & so delicious!). The hubs had the Patty Melt (perfectly seasoned patty & on some darn tasty pumpernickel bread) & fries (also good). On Sundays they also have a few breakfast items available for brunch. Just before noon, three little old white-haired ladies sat down at the table next to us. I'm guessing they were between 70 - 80 years old & they got straight down to business. The waitress comes over to them & the first one orders a Bloody Mary (make sure he uses the spicy tomato juice!) & a shot of something (I couldn't catch what she said). The second orders a Dry Vodka Martini (make sure he uses the good vodka!). The third orders a Gin & Tonic. Now, these old ladies are all right in my book! ;-) The bartender even came over to clarify the Vodka Martini to make sure she only wanted Dry Vermouth & not both Dry & Sweet. She told him absolutely not, if she wanted both that would be a "perfect" & not a "dry" & she ordered a Dry Martini. Kudos to him for coming over to clarify & double kudos to her for knowing her way around a Martini! ;-) The service was very good & quite friendly. My only disappointment was the ladies room. Yes, it was sparkling clean, well stocked & smelled nice; but it looked like a restroom at a Holiday Inn or something. There were some metal art pieces on the wall in floral motifs. WTH?? When I walked in there I thought I was transported to another dimension. What, no more cool bar memorabilia in here? I understand it's the ladies room but still, I would have liked to see the fun personality of the place carry over into the restrooms. The hubs said the men's room didn't really have any either. Oh well. At least it was super clean & didn't stink.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Ervs Mug! From the friendly staff to the quirky and fun atmosphere, this place is awesome. It has such a fun ambiance. There are daily specials that are sure to exceed your expectations. They have like 30-40 beers on tap, which is AWESOME. If you're like me, and love to try new beers, Ervs is definitely the place to go. They have a ton that I have never heard of. Their maple glazed sweet potato fries and soups are amazing. The Rachel and steak sandwich are to die for. They have a couple of different rooms to eat in and a nice outdoor deck (weather permitting). Definitely my favorite South Side restaurant!

Probably more like 3.5! Erv's has a good solid Fish Fry! Definitely an old school, neighborhood Bar and Grill feel here. Large Portions of Cod or Perch. The Cod can be ordered Fried, Baked or one of each. The Fried is my favorite, but then again, I believe anything is better fried! The Perch is Pan Sauteed and delicious. I ordered the French Onion Soup, which was and had tons of Cheese and lots of onion flavor. The menu said it would be $2.00 more, but it didn't appear on the Bill, so I don't know if I got a deal or it comes with the Fish Fry. Neither the fries or baked potato were anything out of the ordinary. Service was quick and friendly. You can tell they know how to handle a hectic Friday Fish Fry crowd. They are wheelchair accessible with a ramp that enters through the patio. It can get really crowded on Friday, so I suggest getting there early.

First time at Erv's Mug last night to check out the famous fish fry and wasn't disappointed but it didn't knock my socks off either. My boyfriend and I got there around 645 last night. I was concerned we would be waiting forever after looking at other people's reviews, but was pleasantly surprised that the hostess only reported a 30 minute wait. There was even room at the bar to sit and have a drink! I ordered a brandy old fashion sweet, my boyfriend ordered a spotted cow. My drink was good, nothing to write home about, however, the spotted cow tasted flat and more like Miller Lite. Now he is not one to ever complain or send anything back, but he said something to the bartender who kind of argued with us, went to pour a new beer while telling this other older blonde lady about it who gave the stink face and shook her head like we were crazy. Our bartender came back and told us she thought it tasted bad but it was probably because they just changed the keg and that was the first beer she poured (what?!). Well guess what the second beer was the same, another bartender came over to tell us she thought it tasted funny and another customer complained, then someone next to us sent his back as well. To me this is terrible customer service - and it mostly came from that blonde bartender giving us the stink eye before she even tried it. Nothing was done to resolve it and they just continued to pour the beer like nothing was wrong. Now onto the food...Unfortunately the waitress or the kitchen or someone got our order wrong and instead of receiving the perch and the fried cod (we wanted to try both!) we got two orders of the fried cod. Not a big deal though... The fish was very good - the breading was crisp and had good flavor while the fish was hearty and flakey a great combination. The sides I can't say much about. The clam chowder was bland. The coleslaw lacked any flavor. Slightly disappointed. The sweet potato fries - eh - they weren't bad but they weren't good either... I wouldn't order them again. If a fish fry place doesn't have potato pancakes I should just stick with ordering a side salad. Will I be back? Yes. Would I like to give this place more then 3 stars? Yes.

The quantity and quality are definitely there! Service hasn't always been my favorite, but this last time we went it was great! I was blown away by their steak sandwich in particular! Phenomenal beer selection, and great bloodies! Keep up the good work guys!

A pal and I ate lunch here today. I had a combination roast beef/corned beef sandwich on dark rye toast with swiss and coleslaw inside. (This was a menu item with a name that I can't remember: something "Affair"). My pal had a BLT club. The sandwiches were really good. A baked bean side was totally kick ass. Wow. Molasses/brown sugar based, with some type of shredded meat and what tasted like bits of crunchy glazed pecans. Wow. Sooooo very good. I could have a meal on the beans alone. Really cool bar here. (I took pictures. LOOK!!). A mess of tapper choices with a two paged, single spaced typed menu. (I took a picture. Look again!!). First time here for me. The lunch/dinner menu has lots of choices. I'm definitely coming back.

Drove for the fish fry on my first friday off in a long time. Worth the trip up from Chicago. Had some Wisconsin beers during the 20 min wait for a table. We got seated on time and started with the buffalo wings. These arrived post soup full of the grill flavor. My partner said they were charbroiled. However they were cooked, they were smoky and spicy and perfect. We both got the fish fry for dinner. The beer batter, lemon, tartar sauce, white fish- smoking hot. Service was really good. Had a great time at the Mug.

I recently moved from the vibrant east side of Milwaukee to the peaceful suburb of Oak Creek. I knew I was stabbing the foodie in me to death. A visit to the highest restaurant in the area (DiCarlo) affirmed this. Then we came to this place for a Friday fish fry. Mind you, I work 2nd shift, so having off for the 4th gave me a rare, rare chance for an actual Wisconsin Friday fish fry. Holy hell, did they nail it. Service was FAST. Like, we placed our order and within a minute we had our soups, and when we were done with those it was the perfect time between sitting back and digesting for a few minutes and having a plate chock full of massive, excellently prepared cod and a huge mound of fries ready to be devoured. I recommend the half and half for the fish fry. They give you one (MASSIVE) fried cod fillet, and another baked. The baked was a bit underseasoned but still quite tasty. The fried was just perfect. Their beer selection is PHENOMENAL. Thirty some taps, and they use them very well. They even had some sours! Decor is pretty neat, staff was great. I'll definitely be coming back here.

Usually every Sunday my boyfriend and I attend "Sunday fun-day" at Erv's Mug. Jason is the best bartender around, always greeting everyone with a welcome. A must try in my opinion is their Sticky Chicken Salad, best salad ever.

I was expecting more of an uninviting, old school tavern and was pleasantly surprised when we walked in. Yes, it's a tavern, but it felt warm & inviting. We were immediately greeted by the bartender and shown to a table in the huge, back dining area. Erv's has about 25 beers on tap, some I'd heard of and some I hadn't, all of them craft beers. (You can probably get a Miller Lite, buy why would you?) Our server was very friendly and attentive. One of my friends ordered the all you can eat wings and she regularly checked to see if he was ready for her to have the kitchen start making him more. I ordered a mushroom-swiss burger made with the veggie patty. It was a good pub veggie burger. I got the veggie medly for my side which was decent, but should've followed my friend's lead and gotten the sweet potato fries. The fries themselves were good, but the bonus was they came with a marshmallow dipping sauce that was excellent. For 3 sandwiches, all you can eat wings and probably 9-10 beers our total bill was $86, which I thought was pretty cheap. My only complaints would be I wish the beer list showed prices, but in the end that was fine. Also, we were there at probably 7:30 and they started putting up chairs around the restaurant and bar while we were eating, probably started around 8:30, which always gives the impression they want you to leave. We left just after 9. I'm really excited to come back and will definitely have to try their fish fry.

Since I live less than 3 miles from Erv's Mug, it's inevitable that we've ended up there more than once. The Friday fish frys are pretty popular. In fact, the tables are usually taken before they start serving at dinner time. So a 2 hour wait is not uncommon. The thing I don't get is that the fish fry is just ok, it's large so there's value but there's nothing special about them. The place is pretty cool, it's a quaint bar, somewhat small, with a nice dining room and tables all around the bar so you can eat in the bar as comfortably as in the dining room. There are trinkets and cheesy decorations everywhere. The stuff is screwed into the ceiling so it's fun to look around. There's a newer deck added to the front of the building, so outdoor dining is a possibility in the summer. Ask what kind of beer they have and you will be handed a list with over 100 offerings. The bar selection is one of the best you will ever find. The rest of the menu is good, I think it's better than the fish fry. The prices are not bad, and the service is dependable. There was a time when they had a chef that made really creative soups, like pizza soup and brat & sauerkraut soup...they sound odd but were always surprizingly delicious. It was fun to go for a Saturday night dinner just for the soups. But that's gone now, so we don't go there as often as we used to. Still, the restaurant is a solid choice, with decent menu offerings. It's definitely worth a trip to sit at the bar. The real negative is since it's small, the overpowering stink from the smokers can ruin your dinner at the bar.

I've only been to Erv's for the Friday Fish Fry, but I love it so I keep going back. Its a bar, so you have to keep that in mind when you go. Not exactly a kid friendly place, although I often see families there. The appetizers are great-- especially the mushrooms (which you get a ton of) and onion soup (which I seem to order no matter where I go). The fish fry is HUGE! I once stopped in after class and ordered the half and half (half fish fry and half baked fish) at the bar. The couple sitting next to me saw my plate and gasped "All that for such a tiny woman??" I laughed and proceeded to attempt to make a dent in the giant entree. I ended up taking half of it home... The bar staff is friendly and quick to fill your glass ... and grab your order if you chose to eat there. The dining room is a bit crowded, but as long as you don't have kids with you, you should be fine. See you there next Friday.
